Tigers Rally To Defeat Wofford, 85-82

CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) – Ray Henderson scored 23 points and Edward Scott added 11 points and 11 assists as Clemson rallied to beat Wofford 85-82 on Saturday night.

Clemson (3-1) trailed by as many as 14 points in the first half before making a run in the second half.

Henderson was 10-for-12 from the field and had 13 rebounds. Dwon Clifton added 14 points and Chey Christie tallied 13 for the Tigers.

Wofford (2-2) was led by Lee Nixon with 25 points, Mike Lenzly with 20 and Justin Stephens with 18.

Nixon banked in a 3-pointer with 7 seconds remaining to cut Clemson’s lead to 83-82. After Christie made two free throws, Lenzly’s 3-point attempt at the buzzer fell short.

The last three meetings between Clemson and Wofford have been decided by five points or less.

Clemson shot 52 percent from the field to Wofford’s 46 percent. The Terriers were 15 of 32 from behind the arc, but Clemson dominated the boards, 43-29.

Trailing 81-79, the Terriers had a chance to tie the game or take the lead in the final minute, but Clifton forced a turnover.

A layup by Scott and a short jumper by Henderson gave the Tigers a 71-67 lead with 5:38 left.

Two straight baskets by Chris Hobbs put Clemson ahead 67-64, but Nixon drained a 3-pointer to tie the game at 67 with 7:53 to play.

Christie scored three straight baskets to put Clemson back in front, 61-60 with 10 minutes remaining.

Wofford led 45-34 at halftime. But an 8-2 run by the Tigers in the first five minutes of the second half cut the Wofford lead to 49-44. Henderson led the run with six points and a blocked shot.
