Tigers Kick Off Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Clemson turned in five performances on the first day of the Penn Relays yesterday with action taking place all day and night. Freshman, Markeeta Thomas turned in the most impressive individual performance for the Tigers while the women’s 4×100 meter relay finished with a strong effort as well.

Thomas placed fifth overall in the women’s 400 meter hurdles in a field of 52 competitors with a time of 1:00.68. Not far behind her in the event was Torie Robinson at 1:02.07. The only other individual performance came from Evie Tate in the 5,000 meter run. The race was the sophomore’s first 5k of the season and the time was good enough for a personal best as she crossed the finish line at 17:19.03.

Robinson came back to run the lead leg of the 4×100 meter relay along with Deja Parrish, Ranee Ricketts and Taylor Williams. Together they combined for a time of 46.33, placing them fourth in a field of 86 teams. Parrish then teamed up with Olivia James, Ersula Farrow and Tanisha Coppin for a ninth place finish and a time of 3:41.97 in the 4×400 meter relay.

The Penn Relays will continue all day and night today and with the finale set for tomorrow. The Tigers will also compete in the Georgia Invitational tomorrow in Athens, Georgia as well.
