Tigers in 14th Heading into Final Round in Puerto Rico

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson women’s golf team improved their team score by nine strokes on Monday in the second round of the Lady Puerto Rico Classic at the San Mar Country Club near San Juan, Puerto Rico. In Monday’s round, the Tigers shot a team score of 310, 22 over par on the par 72 Rio Mar River Course. Clemson is 53 over par entering Tuesday’s final round, five shots behind Iowa. Arkansas leads the tournament at nine-over par.

After shooting five over par in the opening round, redshirt sophomore Lauren Salazar rebounded to lead the Tigers in the second round, shooting an even par round of 72. She is tied for 20th place with a two-day total of 149.  Freshman Marisa Messana, playing in the top spot for the Tigers, improved seven strokes from her first round and had the second best round of the day, shooting a two-over par 74 on Monday.  

Sophomore McKenzie Talbert also improved from her first round as she shot an 80 in Monday’s round. Sophomore Jessica Hoang shot an 84 and freshman Riley Lovorn shot an 87.

The final round will go off Tuesday at 8 a.m. in a shotgun start. Live results will be on BirdieFire.com.
