CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson diving team heads to Atlanta this week for the 2015 ACC Championships, held Feb. 18-21 at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center. The Tigers compete in the one-meter Wednesday, the three-meter Thursday and the platform Saturday, with preliminary rounds in the morning/early afternoon and finals in the evening each day.
The Tigers are coming off wins over College of Charleston and Davidson at McHugh Natatorium on Feb. 7. Danielle Reitsma won the three-meter and the platform at the meet, and finished second in the one-meter, recording NCAA Zone qualifying scores in all three events. Her three-meter score of 316.50 is the second-best score in program history. The sophomore earned ACC Female Diver of the Week honors on Feb. 10 for the performance against the Cougars and Wildcats.
Sophomore Sarah Braun leads the Tigers with nine NCAA Zone qualifying scores so far this season (four in the one-meter, four in the three-meter and one in the platform), followed by Reitsma and junior Megan Helwagen, who each have seven. Braun, Reitsma and senior Jessica Doolittle are the three Tigers who have qualified in all three events.
Last season at the 2015 ACC Championships in Greensboro, N.C., Reitsma and Braun finished 10th and 14th, respectively to lead Clemson in the platform. Reitsma (17th) and Juliana Melchionda (19th) placed in the top 20 of the one-meter, while Melchionda and Chelsea Uranaka finished 17th and 19th, respectively, in the three-meter.
