Tigers Finish Fifth at Ka’anapali

Clemson, S.C.—Billy Kennerly fired a two-under-par 69 and finished a team best eighth place individually, to lead Clemson to a fifth-place team finish at the Ka’anapali Classic in Maui, Hawaii on Sunday.   The tournament concluded Clemson’s play for the fall portion of the season. Fifth-ranked Oregon won the tournament with a score of 33-under-par 819.  North Florida was second at 843, Georgia was third at 848 and Kansas was fourth at 853.  Clemson was fifth at 857, five-over-par as a team. Kennerly was the only Tiger with a top 10 finish.  He had a final round 69, his second round in the 60s for the weekend.  On Sunday the senior started slowly with two bogeys in his first three holes, but he played the final 15 holes at four-under-par.  He finished the weekend with 10 birdies, more than any other Tiger, and had 37 pars, fourth most in the field of 73 golfers. Clemson’s second best golfer for the weekend was junior Miller Capps, who had a 73 on Sunday and a 214 total for the 54 holes, good enough for a tie for 17th place.  Capps had a 71 in the second round in windy conditions that tied for the best in the field on Saturday.  Capps also had 37 pars for the weekend to tie Kennerly for fourth most in the field. Cody Proveaux, Clemson’s top golfer entering he tournament, finished 24th with a 217 score over the 54 holes.  He did make two birdies in his last five holes to shoot a 73 on Sunday, two over par for the round.    Proveaux finished the fall with a 70.75 stroke average and a team best 10 under-par rounds in his 16 total rounds. Stephen Behr had a 73 on Sunday as well and his 219 total for the three rounds was 29th best in the field.  Carson Young had a 74 on Sunday to finish at 221, good enough for 39th place. Clemson at Ka’anapali ClassicMaui, HawaiiNovember 7-9, 2014Team Scores1.   Oregon 819, 2.
