Clemson, SC – Travis Padgett posted an NCAA provisional qualifying mark on Friday to highlight competition for the men’s track & field team at the Clemson Opener. George Fields also won the long jump competition Friday for the Tigers.

Padgett’s time of 6.70 was just off his career-best of 6.69, which he ran as a freshman in 2006. He finished with the fastest time in the prelims, while teammate Corey Brown was tied for third overall with a time of 6.79. Both will compete in Saturday’s finals at 11:20 AM.

Joey O’Rourke (8.73).

Fields, a sophomore from Columbia, SC, posted an indoor personal best in the long jump with a mark of 24’6.25″, just shy of an NCAA provisional qualifying effort.

Zach Berg, a red-shirt freshman from Tega Cay, SC, finished fifth in the weight throw after recording a toss of 58’8.5″. His mark puts him fifth all-time in Clemson history in the event, after just one collegiate competition. He passed David Schenek, who had a toss of 58’4.75″ in 2001.

Clemson will return to action on Saturday, with the 60m high hurdles, high jump, and shot put beginning at 11:00 AM.
