CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson men’s track and field team had two event champions in Saturday’s final day of action at the Clemson Opener. Itay Magidi won the 3000m run with a time of 8:56.49, while Corey Brown posted the top time in the 60m dash at 6.74. Seven other Tigers placed in the top five in their respective events, while 20 total student-athletes achieved provisional or automatic qualifying marks for the NCAA Indoor Championships in the two-day event.

Clemson’s Travis Padgett finished second in the 60m with a time of 6.75, just one hundredth of a second behind winner and teammate Brown. Rashad Gardner had the Tigers’ top time in the 400m with a 49.35, good enough for seventh overall. Brian Knapp competed in the mile run for the Tigers and posted a fourth-place finish, while Jay Lumpkin’s time of 9:08.91 in the 3000m run ranked fourth in the field. In the 60m hurdles, Clemson’s Ryan Koontz finished fifth to lead the Tigers in that event.

In the field events, Adam Linkenauger cleared 2.12m/6’11.5″ to claim second place in the high jump. Jason Bell also earned a second place finish for the Tigers with a mark of 50’8.25″ in the triple jump. Mitch Greeley tied for fourth place in the pole vault clearing 5.05m/16’6.75″, while Koontz had a jump of 4.45m/14’7.25″ in the same event.

Cowin Mills paced the Tiger runners in the 800m with a time of 2:01.50, while Tigers Koontz and Mike Feathers also ran times of 2:05.10 and 2:11.04, respectively, in the event. Padgett also competed in the 200m run, posting a time of 22.41 to finish 16th out of 71 runners.

The Tigers return to action on January 13-14 to take part in the Virginia Tech Invitational at Blacksburg, VA.
