On Friday, August 6, 2010 the Clemson women’s soccer team and staff took a break from the fields during preseason to spend a day in the service of others. The Tigers spent the afternoon visiting with the patients, families and hospital staff of the Greenville Children’s Hospital. During the visit, players signed t-shirts, posters and tiger rags for the patients.

“Our parents always modeled and encouraged serving others,” said Tiger Head Coach Hershey Strosberg. “We grew up in and around hospitals visiting patients since our father practiced medicine until he retired last month. My perspective changed when my nephew survived a brain tumor and cancer. It’s an entirely different experience when you watch a child and their parents and you are related to them, so this year was a much more emotional visit.”

Throughout the academic year, the Clemson women’s soccer team supports various community service events with the idea of making a difference and gaining perspective.

During 2010 road trips the Tigers will be collecting toiletries at different hotel locations to save and distribute to local women’s shelters in the Clemson area. The team will also be involved in numerous community events along with supporting missions trips abroad with soccer balls and t-shirts from Clemson soccer.
