CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson volleyball team won a pair of matches in its own spring tournament on Saturday to claim the title. The Tigers defeated Georgia by a 3-1 margin in their morning match and then won by the same score against the College of Charleston in the afternoon to wrap up the day’s action.
Clemson opened the day with a 3-1 win over Georgia. The Tigers won the first set by a 25-18 margin and then held on for a win by the same margin in the second set. The Bulldogs rebounded to defeat Clemson in the third set to force a fourth (25-20) but were unable to overcome the 2-0 deficit as the Tigers went on to claim the final set, 25-21, and the match.
Unofficially, rising senior Lia Proctor posted 28 kills while hitting at .500 clip. The outside hitter was one dig shy of a double-double with defensive saves in the morning match.
The College of Charleston edged the Tigers in the first set, 28-26, but it was the only set in which the Cougars would come out on top. Clemson rebounded to take the second set handedly, 25-15, and then won the third set by an even wider margin at 25-13. The teams then battled in the fourth before the Tigers closed out the set for the 26-24 win.
Clemson will wrap up its spring schedule on Wednesday as the Tigers will make the short trip to Greenville, SC to face the Furman Paladins. The match is scheduled to begin at 5:00 pm.
