Tiger Volleyball Team Sweeps Wofford

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson volleyball team defeated the Wofford Terriers 3-0 at Jervey Gym on Wednesday night. With the win, the Tigers improve to 5-6 on the season while Wofford drops to 9-5 overall. Clemson’s home winning streak improves seven-in-a-row dating back to last season.

Clemson head coach Jolene Jordan Hoover said, “This was a good start to the big week we have ahead of us. I am really pleased with the way that Kristin Swanson came in and played hard. Ryane Beasley and Lori Ashton did a great job in the middle for us as well.”

Clemson won the first game 30-19, hitting .378. In game two, the Tigers won 30-15, hitting .407. Clemson hit .591 en route to a 30-8 win in the final game. The Tigers hit .442 for the match, while holding the Terriers to a .000 hitting percentage. Clemson’s hitting percentage was the second-best the team has posted this season, behind a .448 percentage tallied against George Mason earlier this year. Clemson tallied five team blocks, and Wofford had one team block. Clemson also served up a season-high eight aces, with 46 digs.

The Tigers were led by Kristin Swanson who had a break-out performance, hitting .923 with 12 kills in 13 attempts. Her hitting percentage and kills were career-highs, and she also served up a career-best two aces with two block assists. Ryane Beasley hit a career-high .556 with 11 kills and one error in 18 attempts. Leslie Finn added nine kills with a career-best 10 digs, and Jessi Betcher handed out 39 assists with 12 digs, two service aces and two block assists.

Janna Webb and Katie Sobczyk led the Terriers with six kills each, and Webb had a team-best .300 hitting percentage. Molly Bushong handed out 17 assits with six digs.

The Tiger volleyball team returns to action Friday evening as they play host to the Clemson Invitational. Clemson will play Virginia Tech at 7:00 PM Friday, then face Coastal Carolina on Saturday at 10:00 AM. In the tournament’s finale, the Tigers will play Texas Christian University at 7:00 PM Saturday night. Admission is free to all Clemson home matches at Jervey Gym.
