Tiger Volleyball Inks Two For 2006 Season

Nov. 14, 2005

CLEMSON, SC – Clemson head volleyball coach Jolene Jordan Hoover announced that two players signed National Letters of Intent on Wednesday, Nov. 9. Kelsey Murphy and Lia Proctor will join the 2006 Tiger volleyball team.

“We are excited to add these two very skilled, athletic student-athletes to our roster for next year,” Hoover said.

Kelsey Murphy is a setter from New Lenox, IL. She is from the same high school that produced Clemson volleyball alums Megan McEnery and current assistant coach Jodi Steffes. Murphy’s aunt, Jenny Yurkanin, was also a member of the Tiger volleyball program as a setter from 1987-1990. Murphy attends Providence Catholic High School and plays for the 1st Alliance Volleyball Club.

“Kelsey is a very accomplished setter whose teams win at the highest levels of junior volleyball,” commented Hoover. “She is a very strong blocker and a proven leader.”

Lia Proctor, from Inman, SC, is an athletic, fast and strong player who looks could play middle or outside for Hoover’s squad. She has helped Dorman High School to three State volleyball titles, as well as three State championships in basketball. Proctor plays club volleyball for Club South and joins current Tigers Laura Boozer and Amber Campbell as South Carolina natives on the Clemson roster.

“Lia is one of the best players in the state. She attended camp last summer and had a chance to be around our team and coaches,” Hoover said. “We’re excited that she decided to stay close to home and attend Clemson.”
