Tiger Track & Field to Host Bob Pollock Invitational on Saturday

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson track & field program will play host to numerous schools from the Southeast region, as well as children from 11 local elementary schools, on Saturday at the Bob Pollock Invitational. The meet, named in honor of the late Clemson Hall of Fame men’s coach, will be held at Rock Norman Track. Field events begin at 10:00 AM, followed by elementary relay prelims at 12:00 PM, and collegiate track events beginning at 12:45 PM.

Third, fourth and fifth-graders from Central, Clemson, James M. Brown, Keowee, LaFrance, Mount Lebanon, Orchard Park, Pendleton, Ravenel, Townville, and Walhalla elementary schools will be participating in 8×75 mixed relays. Clemson will also hold a 100m dash for boys and girls of each grade on Saturday.

The first event of the day will be the men’s javelin throw at 9:00 AM, followed by the women’s event at 10. The first elementary race will be the 8×75 mixed relay for third grade at 12:00 PM. That will be directly followed by prelims for both fourth and fifth graders.

The first collegiate track event of the day will take place at 12:45 with the running of the women’s 4x100m relay. The men’s 4x100m relay will follow at 12:55. Other events slated to be held on the track Saturday include the 100m, 200m, 400m, 100m/110m hurdles, 400m hurdles, 800m, 1500m, 5000m, 3000m steeplechase and the 4x400m relay.

Clemson will compete a handful of athletes from both teams this weekend. The Tiger women held steady this week as the No. 4 rated team in the country, according to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. The women claimed the ACC team championship two weeks ago in Durham, NC, while the men took home their best finish since 2008 with a fourth-place effort.
