The men’s track & field team will compete in the Tyson Invitational this weekend at the Tyson Center in Fayetteville, AR. Twenty-one student-athletes from Clemson will be making the trip to compete in one of the nation’s most prestigious indoor meets. Highlighting the trip will be sophomore Travis Padgett’s race against the professionals in a special 60m invitational Friday evening.
Padgett will be joined by sprinters Gwantaveus Anderson, Corey Brown, C.J. Spiller, and Travis Swaggard at the Tyson Invitational. The Tigers will have three representatives in the 60m dash, as well as four in the 200m and 400m.
In the 800m, which will be held at 12:45 Saturday, Clemson will enter sophomore Will Noble. The Tigers will enter three student-athletes in the mile, including outstanding senior Itay Magidi. He posted a school record time in the 3000m last weekend at Notre Dame’s Meyo Invitational.
Sam Bryfczynski and Bryce Iverson will compete in the 3000m run at 10:30 AM Saturday. In the 5000m, red-shirt junior Matt Clark will be the lone entry for the Tiger program. He posted the fifth-best time in Clemson history in the 3000m last weekend at Notre Dame.
Multi-event athlete Ryan Koontz will run the 60m hurdles Friday. The prelims for that event are scheduled for 12:20 PM. He will be joined by fellow senior Adam Linkenauger in the high jump at 10:00 AM Saturday. Koontz will also be entered in the long jump, along with sophomore George Fields. The long jump is set for 11:00 AM Friday.
Mitch Greeley, one of the nation’s top pole vaulters, will compete in that event at 10:00 AM Friday. He will be joined by Tiger freshman Chris Spear, who cleared a personal best last weekend at the Carolina Invitational. Zach Berg will compete in the weight throw at noon on Saturday. He owns a top-five mark in school history in that event.
The Tigers will also enter a 4x400m relay team and distance medley relay team this weekend. The 1600m relay event is scheduled for 1:20 PM Saturday afternoon, while the DMR is set for 11:10 AM earlier that same day.
