Tiger Rowing to Compete at Head of the Hooch This Weekend

Nov. 3, 2006

The Clemson rowing team will travel to Chattanooga, TN to take part in the 26th running of the Head of the Hooch regatta. For the second straight year, the 5000m (three-mile) regatta will take place at a spectator-friendly location at Ross’s Landing Park on the Tennessee River.

The Tigers will be entered in competition for five events. Clemson’s first event will be the novice 8+, which will be held between 9:35 and 9:55 AM Saturday. The Tigers have entered just one boat in that race. Clemson has three boats racing in the championship 8+, which will be held at 11:00 AM.

Following the novice and varsity 8+ races, coaches Shaw Tilton will race in a mixed doubles event. In the championship doubles race at 2:05 PM, assistant coach Becca Brinker and student coach Chelsea Kautz will race for Clemson. Rounding out the Tigers’ competition Saturday will be four boats in the championship 4+, which is set for 3:20 PM.

Last season, Clemson did not participate in the Head of the Hooch. Two years ago, however, the Tigers won a novice 4+ and novice 8+ race and finished sixth in the championship 8+.
