Tiger Rowing to Close Out Fall Season in Rivanna Romp

Nov. 10, 2006

The Clemson rowing squad will travel to Charlottesville, VA to take part in the Rivanna Romp on Sunday. Eleven teams will compete in the event, which will be held at the Rivanna Reservoir. It will mark Clemson’s final event of the fall season.

The first event Sunday will be the varsity 8+ at 9:00 AM. Clemson will look to improve on its fifth-place finish from a year ago, but will have to do so against a strong field. The Tigers have entered three boats in the varsity 8+, but will compete against crews from Central Florida, Duke, Georgetown, Miami (FL), Minnesota, Ohio State, Tennessee, Texas, Tennessee, and Wisconsin. Clemson’s top varsity 8+ boat was fourth in the Head of the Hooch last weekend.

The novice 8+ competition will begin at 10:00 AM Sunday. The Tigers are the defending champions of the event, as Clemson’s A boat finished ahead of host Virginia and the Tigers’ B boat was third in the 2005 running of the Rivanna Romp. Clemson will have two boats in the novice 8+, and Virginia will have five boats in the competition. Most recently, the Tigers’ first novice 8+ finished fourth out of 22 boats at the Head of the Hooch.

The small boat competition (4+) is scheduled for 11:15 AM Sunday. The Tigers will have four boats entered in the 4+ race, with Ohio State and Miami (FL) slated to have three boats apiece. Last week, Clemson’s top varsity 4+ boat was fourth at the Head of the Hooch.
