Thomas McNamara Participates in MLS Player Combine

CLEMSON, SC – Clemson men’s soccer player Thomas McNamara is participating in the MLS Player Combine in Fort Lauderdale, FL on January 10-14. The MLS invited 50 NCAA Division I college seniors to showcase their talents at the 2014 adidas MLS Player Combine. The 2014 MLS SuperDraft will be conducted on January 16 in Philadelphia (noon ET). A graduate student at Clemson, McNamara graduated with a degree in economics from Brown. The native of West Nyack, NY led Clemson in scoring with seven goals and eight assists for 22 points in 2013. He also became the first Tiger soccer player in seven years to be named first-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference. In 2013, McNamara was named ACC Player-of-the-Week twice and National Player-of-the-Week once. He was also named to the ACC All-Tournament team. He scored four game-winning goals this season while leading the Tigers (11-7-3) to the first round of the NCAA Tournament. McNamara was named to the NSCAA All-South region team and to the NSCAA All-America Second Team. He was also named a third-team All-American by CollegeSoccerNews.com. In November, he was named to the Capital One Academic All-America First-Team selected by CoSida (College Sports Information Directors of America). McNamara was also named a NSCAA Scholar First-Team All-American. He is the 18th person in Clemson athletic history to be named an All-American both on and off the field in the same academic year. He is only the second men’s soccer player to accomplish this feat. Mike Potempa, a men’s soccer player in 1997-2000, was named a NSCAA All-American and an Academic All-American in 2000-01. A committee consisting of NCAA Division I coaches and MLS representatives selected the 50 seniors. These players were joined at the adidas MLS Player Combine by seniors from other NCAA divisions, as well as underclassmen who signed Generation adidas contracts, and other international invitees.
