Clemson, S.C. – The 2008-09 Clemson Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Team will hold its Orange and White meet on Friday, September 19 at 4:00 pm at McHugh Natatorium. The meet will be the first competition for the Tigers in the new season as they prepare to open competition on October 4 at home against Davidson.
Head coach Christopher Ip said, “We are always excited to hold the orange and white meet because it gives us an opportunity to evaluate where we are as a team in formal competition. We are looking forward to seeing how the freshmen stack up with the upperclassmen and how the upperclassmen respond. It also gives us another chance to showcase our student-athletes.”
The white team will be lead by Michelle Parkhurst, who is the reigning ACC champion in the 100 back, 200 back, and 200 free. The orange squad features Rachel Regone, the ACC runner-up in the 50 free and Olympic Trial participant.
Senior Dan Mengering will also lead the white team. The Rockville, MD native is on Clemson’s all-time top 10 list in the 200 fly, 200 free, and 800 free relay. Junior Olympic Trial participant Tom Recko will lead the men’s side on the orange team.
Both rosters feature several freshmen, as the men’s class was ranked 20th in the nation by collegeswimming.com and the women’s class is strong as well, featuring Olympic Trial participant Maddie Tarantolo.
The meet starts at 4:00 pm and is free and open to the public.
