Swimmer Chris Dart Performs Well in British Nationals

Aug. 25, 2010

SUNDERLAND, ENGLAND – Clemson swimmer Chris Dart posted three top ten finishes at the British Gas ASA National Championships, a four-day competition that concluded on August 21.

The junior from Chatham, NJ competed well against some of the best competition in Great Britain. Dart’s best event was the 50-meter backstroke, where he finished third in the event with a time of 26.40 seconds. In the 100-meter backstroke, his time of 57.12 seconds was good enough for fifth place. He also finished in eighth place in the 200-meter individual medley.

“I am proud of Chris Dart’s success at the ASA British Long Course Nationals,” Head Swimming and Diving Coach Christopher Ip said. “It was great to see the Clemson Tiger Paw on the podium at this meet where Great Britain’s finest athletes were vying for spots for the Commonwealth Games. Our swim team goal this summer was to have athletes compete at the regional level, the national level, and the international level. All were accomplished. Chris’s commitment to these goals has paid off, and he is now way ahead of schedule for our collegiate short course season.”

Dart, who is a dual citizen of the United States and Great Britain and qualified for Olympic trials in both nations in 2008, set the school record in the 200-meter individual medley last season. He also swims backstroke and freestyle for the Tigers.

The Clemson Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving teams will begin the 2010-11 season with the Orange and White Meet on Friday, September 17.
