CLEMSON, SC – Senior guard Demontez Stitt was one of 21 players recently named to the 2011 Lefty Driesell Defensive All-America Team. The Player of the Year will be announced at the CollegeInsider.com awards banquet on April 1 in Houston, site of this year’s Final Four.
The award is named in honor of coaching legend Lefty Driesell, who led four different Division I schools to at least 100 wins. The Lefty Driesell Award Selection Committee was made up of several head coaches and assistant coaches from the Division I ranks, as well as select members of the national media.
Stitt was the leading scorer this past season for Clemson, which finished with a 22-12 overall record, 9-7 in the ACC. He led the Tigers to the semifinals of the ACC Tournament and to the second round of the NCAA Tournament as well.
The Matthews, NC native was a big reason Clemson finished the 2010-11 season atop the ACC in scoring defense. The Tigers yielded just 61.4 points per game to their opponents and also were second in the ACC in field goal percentage defense, allowing just a .402 figure. Stitt was 10th in the ACC in steals per game (1.4) and concluded his career ninth all-time in Clemson history with 164 steals.
