Nov. 15, 2000

Clemson – Steve Allen, a senior at Dillard High School in Fort Lauderdale, FL, has signed an official National Letter of Intent to join the Clemson men’s basketball team next fall, head coach Larry Shyatt announced Wednesday.

Allen, a 6-10, 235-pound center, averaged 12.3 points, 9.6 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game as a junior at Dillard. He shot 59 percent from the floor and 72 percent from the free throw line. He was a first-team All-County, All-Conference and an honorable mention All-State selection last year. Allen once scored 21 points in a game and has game highs of 16 rebounds and six blocks.

“Steve Allen is a player we’ve been recruiting for a long time and I have always felt he can be a tremendous interior player in our league,” Shyatt said. “I was most impressed with Steve at the Nike Camp and we followed his progress all summer long. He is a great student and has a great family.”

Clemson has now signed four student-athletes for the 2001-02 season. Allen joins Sharrod Ford, a 6-9, 210-pound forward from Accokeek, MD, Olu Babalola, a 6-6, 245-pound forward from London, England, and Chey Christie, a 6-4, 170-pound wing player from Biloxi, MS.
