CLEMSON, S.C. – Sam Staab, a junior defender from San Diego, Calif., has been named to the 2017 Preseason All-Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Soccer Team, as voted on by the league’s 14 head coaches, and announced by the conference office on Thursday.
Staab has started all 43 games of her Clemson career on the back line, and is a two-time All-ACC postseason award winner. She is tied for the team’s returning leading scorer, with 15 points in 2016 on two goals and 11 assists. The 11 assists were best in the ACC and 10th in the nation last season. Two seasons into her Clemson career, Staab is already ninth in school record books for career assists, with 18.
As a team, the Tigers were picked to finish sixth in the conference, after claiming a share of the ACC Regular Season title in 2016. Reigning ACC Coach of the Year Eddie Radwanski’s team lost 12 letterwinners and eight starters from last year, including two All-Americans and three All-ACC selections, and have added nine decorated freshmen to the roster.
