South Carolina Athletic Hall of Fame Banquet Set for Monday Night

COLUMBIA, SC–The South Carolina Athletic Hall of Fame will hold its 50th anniversary banquet and induction ceremony Monday night (May 24) at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center. The event, the largest gathering of sports, is sold out.

The Golden Anniversary Class of 2010 includes the Clemson pair of NBA star Horace Grant and NFl lineman Joe Bostic; USC/NFL standout Bill Currier; two-time Olympic swimming gold medalist Courtney Shealy Hart of Irmo; longtime Furman tennis coach Paul Scarpa; Western Carolina/MLB’s Wayne Tolleson of Spartanburg; former Wimbeldon and U.S. Open champion Stan Smith of Hilton Head; and USC alum Bob McNair, owner of the NFL Houston Texans and the Stonerside thoroughbred racing stable of Aiken.

Four award winners will also be honored. Coastal Carolina track star Amber Campbell will receive the Lucille Goldbold Female Athlete of the Year award, presented by the Boyd Management Company; Clemson football All-American C.J. Spiller will receive the Banks McFadden Male Athlete of the Year honor, presented by the Defender Services; former Clemson golf standout Lucas Glover will receive the Grant Bennett Pro Athlete of the Year Award, presented by Piggly Wiggly of South Carolina; and Appalachian State All-American quarterback Armanti Edwards will receive the Bobby Richardson Sportsmanship honor, presented by Peter and Ane DiVenere.

Other special recognition honorees will also be included in the program, including Furman basketball star Frank Selvy, the lone surviving member of the SCAHOF charter class of 1960. Some 40 former inductees will also return to join in the prestigious Blue Jacket Ceremony to be witnessed by a ballroom crowd of nearly 1,000 sports fans.
