The Solid Orange Squad welcomed the State Dixie Youth baseball organization and teams from across the state to Clemson University on Tuesday July 23, 2010. All Star baseball players from Hartsville, Greg Park, Summerville and Honeapath toured the athletic facilities in order to see what it was like to be a collegiate athlete. The tour included the West Endzone, Littlejohn Coliseum, Doug Kingsmore Stadium and Jervey Athletic Center. The young athletes were guided by track & field student-athletes Kim Ruck, Candace Sapp, Ashley Vaughn and Chad Holt, and were educated about each facility and the traditions at Clemson.

SOS began its semester recruitment on Monday, July 29, 2010 at the Michelin Career Center by speaking to incoming freshmen and transfer athletes about the importance of giving back to the community. The athletes from various sports were participating in a Personal Growth and Development (PG&D) program as required by all incoming freshmen and transfer students. Linda White and Chad Holt spoke to the athletes about the level of commitment that would be expected and most importantly the opportunities they would be given. Athletes were given the Be A T.I.G.E.R.! newspaper and informed of the type of events they would participate in. Each athlete then filled out a member information form will become members of the SOS after their participation in an event.

SOS athletes continued to promote Clemson athletics on August 6, through community engagement with Miracle Hill children’s home. Approximately 20 boys from Miracle Hill attended Clemson University for a tour of the athletic campus and a discussion about what it means to Be A T.I.G.E.R.! The boys were welcomed with a motivational speech by Bill D’Andrea, Executive Senior Associate Athletic Director, followed by a tour of the athletic facilities including the opportunity to touch Howard’s Rock and run down the Hill. The boys also had the opportunity to speak with student-athletes Chad Holt and Cassie Self about the different character traits of a T.I.G.E.R. The kids concluded their tour by learning the Clemson cadence count cheer and receiving a gift bag including athletic event schedules and posters.
