Smith to Miss Auburn Game

Sept. 14, 2011

CLEMSON, SC – Clemson starting left guard David Smith will undergo arthroscopic shoulder surgery on Thursday and will miss Clemson’s game against Auburn on Saturday. Smith suffered the injury at practice on Tuesday.

Smith, a graduate student from Greenville, SC, had started the first two games and has 16 starts over his career. Mason Cloy will start in his place. Cloy, also a graduate student, actually has more career starts than Smith with 19 entering Saturday’s game.

Ironically, Smith was injured in the closing moments of last year’s game at Auburn when he suffered a high ankle sprain and missed the next two games.
