ACC Release
Greensboro, N.C. – The ACC announced earlier today that Rebekah Smith, a senior from Irmo, S.C., has been named the conference’s Women’s Track Performer of the Week after her exemplary performance at the LSU Twilight on Friday, Feb. 21. This is the third time Smith has garnered the honor during her time at Clemson. This is the second time this year the Clemson Track & Field program has had an athlete receive this recognition. Andrea Foster received the honor on Jan. 22.
The honor was earned by Smith after the senior ran the third-fastest time in Clemson history for the women’s 60 meters at the LSU Twilight. Smith qualified out of the prelims by running 7.28, the sixth-fastest time in her career, and then ran a personal best time of 7.23 in the finals.
With the ACC Indoor Track & Field Championships slated to start tomorrow, Thursday, Jan. 27, Smith will look to add to her impressive trophy case. Through her time in Clemson, Smith has accumulated four All-America honors, two USATF Junior Championship titles (100m, 200m), one ACC championship title (60m) and nine All-ACC honors.
Smith is a four-time All-ACC Academic recipient, earning the honor each indoor campaign since 2017, and earning the accolade after the outdoor season in 2018. Earlier this year, Smith earned her undergraduate degree in Psychology and is currently pursuing her Master’s degree.
Competition begins for the Tigers at the 2020 ACC Indoor Championships tomorrow afternoon with the women’s weight throw at 3:30 p.m. All competition will be housed in the Loftus Sports Center on the campus of the University of Notre Dame.
