Select Members of Men’s Track & Field Squad Head to Virginia Tech

March 1, 2007

The Clemson men’s track & field team will send seven student-athletes to Blacksburg, VA for the Virginia Tech Last Chance qualifying meet this weekend. The Tigers have one automatic qualifier and three strong provisional qualifiers at this point, but are looking for more.

In the 60m dash, three Tigers will compete in the prelims at 1:15 PM in hopes of improving their chances at making the field for the NCAA Championships. C.J. Spiller (6.74) will also run the 60m this weekend. The 55m finals are scheduled for 2:20.

At 11:00 AM, Adam Linkenauger will look to qualify for the NCAAs in the high jump. He earned his fourth All-ACC honor in that event last weekend and owns a season-best mark of 7’0.25″.

At 12:00 PM, George Fields will look to improve on his season-best mark of 24’7.75″ in the long jump. He claimed that event title last weekend at the ACC Championships. At the same time, Chris Spear will compete in the pole vault. He cleared 16’9.5″ and finished fourth last weekend at ACCs.

Jason Bell will compete in the triple jump after Fields’ long jump attempts. Bell owns a top mark of 51’3.75″, which is an NCAA provisional qualifying effort, but needs to improve on his leap in order to advance further to NCAAs.
