Salge Earns Women’s Tennis All-ACC Honors

GREENSBORO, NC – Clemson women’s tennis player Carol Salge was named to the 2006 All-ACC team, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday, Apr. 19. The honor is the first for the Tiger sophomore and marks the fifth consecutive year that a Clemson student-athlete has earned the conference accolade.

Salge has compiled a 23-8 overall singles record during the fall and spring seasons with a 16-5 ledger in dual matches. She also posted an unblemished 10-0 record when playing at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center and tallied a 9-2 mark against ACC opponents. In doubles play, the native of San Roque, Brazil had a 7-4 record in league play with partners Federica van Adrichem and Kathi Gerber. Salge and van Adrichem have totaled a 12-6 overall record this season at the number one doubles position.

Clemson, along with Florida State, NC State, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest, placed one student-athlete on the All-Conference team, while Duke and Miami led the way with three honorees apiece. Georgia Tech, Maryland and North Carolina each had two members on the team.

The Tigers will begin play in the 2006 ACC Tournament at the Cary Tennis Center in Cary, NC later this week. As the number four seed, they will face the winner of fifth-seeded North Carolina and #12 seed Boston College on Friday, Apr. 21 at 9:00 am.
