Rowing’s Emily Kuivila Receives Edward’s Sportsmanship Award

Emily Kuivila, Clemson rowing’s Varsity 8+ coxswain last season, received The Edward’s Sportsmanship Award for 2003. This award is presented each year to the student-athlete who has displayed good sportsmanship both on and off the field of competition and for setting high standards in the classroom. She is the second woman to receive this award since is inception in 1979. Recent recipients of this honor include Chad Carson (2002), John Engler (2001) and Brandon Streeter (2000).

Kuivila was named the Director of Operations for Clemson rowing this summer. Kuivila was the I Varsity 8+ coxswain both her junior and senior years and served as co-captain her senior year. During her four years as a Tiger Student-athlete, Kuivila won numerous awards and honors including earning all ACC honor roll recognition from 1999-2003, CRCA National scholar athlete in 2002 and 2003 as well as the CRCA First team all-region selection. In 2003 she was named to the All-ACC team and earned Clemson’s Athletic Director Academic Excellence Award. Lastly, Kuivila served as the team representative for SAAB and SAFCA in 2003.
