Rowing Opens Season Against Eastern Michigan on Saturday

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson women’s rowing team will open the 2014 season on Saturday at 9:00 AM when they host Eastern Michigan on Lake Hartwell. It will be the 16th season as a whole for the program and the fourth under Head Coach Robbie Tenenbaum.

“I am really excited about the team this year,” said Tenenbaum. “I am hoping we can use last year as a springboard and finish higher. The team has been working and training hard and we are excited to get the season started.”

Clemson will open the season with Eastern Michigan for the sixth straight season. The Tigers have finished higher than the Eagles in each of the 16 races between the two over the past five seasons. In last season’s opener, Clemson finished first overall in three of five races against Duke and Eastern Michigan.

The Tigers enter 2014 having finished last season ranked 18th after a second-place finish at the ACC Championships. The Tigers recorded five first-place finishes over ranked opponents in 2013, third most in a single season in school history.

In the fall season, the Tigers won three of their four races at the Head of the Oklahoma with the 1st Varsity 8+ taking first overall. At the Head of the Charles, the Varsity 4+ finished second out of 45 teams while the Varsity 8+ finished 11th out of 39 teams. Both finishes were tied for the highest Clemson finishes ever at the Head of the Charles in their respective events.

Admission to Saturday’s regatta is free. It will also be streamed live on TigerCast on ClemsonTigers.com and updates will be available on Twitter via @ClemsonRowing.
