Rowing Competes At Rivanna Romp

Nov. 12, 2000

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — The Clemson Tiger rowing team competed at the Rivanna Romp held today at the Rivanna Reservoir. The University of Virginia hosted the regatta that included Duke, Georgetown, Miami, Ohio State and North Carolina.

The Tigers finished fifth and eighth in the morning’s first event, the varsity eight race. The Clemson “A” boat finished fifth with a time of 14:16.6 while Clemson “B” was eighth with a time of 14:33.8.

In the varsity four event, Clemson finished fifth with a time of 15:25.7 while in the pairs competition, Clemson posted an eighth place finish in a time of 18:15.0.

“I was pleased with the Tigers’ performance in Charlottesville against top level programs. All of our boats had solid performances. The Varsity 8+ overcame some challenging circumstances with class and finished with a competitive time. Clemson’s true novice showed great technique and competitiveness against some highly recruited freshmen in the other programs. They have made great strides this fall,” said head coach Susie Lueck. “This regatta was a great end to a solid fall season and shows us how much we need to gain during winter training.”

The Rivanna Romp was the final fall event for the Tigers. Clemson will open the traditional spring season on March 17, 2001 as they host the Clemson Challenge.
