Oregon State Tops @ClemsonWBB to Close Duel in the Desert

LAS VEGAS, NV – The Clemson women’s basketball team fell to Oregon State, 74-41, on Saturday night in its final game at the Duel in the Desert at Cox Pavilion in Las Vegas, NV. Oregon State hit 13 three-pointers and had 24 second chance points in the contest. Clemson (7-5) fell to 0-2 all-time against the Beavers (8-3).  The Tigers went 1-2 in the tournament, beating Creighton on Friday, and falling to host UNLV and Oregon State.  Junior Nikki Dixon had 14 points to lead Clemson, who tied a school record by committing just six team turnovers, its fewest in a game since 1996.  Oregon State used a 16-2 run over a five-minute span in the first half to take a 25-10 lead with 8:08 to play, and pull away. The Tigers would not get closer than 12 for the rest of the game, shortly before the end of the first half.  Clemson struggled to a .280 (14-50) mark from the floor as the Beavers packed the paint and forced the Tigers to shoot jump shots. The Tigers had some success attacking the rim, as Dixon did three times in the first half. However, each time they looked to make a run, Oregon State buried another three-pointer.  The Beavers hit 6-13 three-pointers in the first half and 7-15 in the second. Another 18-3 run spanning halftime pushed the Oregon State lead to 28 with 12:41 to play, and Clemson could get no closer than 26.  Clemson will break for the holiday and return to play on Dec. 29 against Middle Tennessee in Littlejohn Coliseum before heading on the road to NJIT and Notre Dame to start the new year.  Player of the Game: Nikki Dixon – The junior had 14 points in 28 minutes, and had five of Clemson’s 19 field goals Stat of the Game: 1 – Clemson’s starters had just one turnover in 126 combined minutes against the Beavers.
