July 26, 2005

Cali, Colombia – Former Clemson track and field standout Gisele Oliveira claimed the triple jump title at the 2005 South American Championships. Oliveira, a native of Porto Alegre, Brazil, helped lead her home country to a first-place finish with a jump of 13.90m, which equates to a mark of 45’7.25″. Oliveira’s mark was her second-best performance in 2005, as she set a school record with a mark of 45’9″ at the Clemson Invitational in April.

Oliveira was one of 25 Brazilians to claim gold in the 40 events that were held this past weekend. Brazil easily won the championships with 478 total points, while host country Colombia finished runner-up with 321 points.

Oliveira, a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-American, won the triple jump at the 2005 NCAA Indoor National Championships. She also finished runner-up in the triple jump at the outdoor meet in June.
