No. 15 Tigers Down ACC Rival Maryland

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Amy Geren scored 17 points, including a key three-point play down the stretch, as No. 15 Clemson held off Maryland for a 55-45 victory Thursday night.

Clemson (17-3, 7-3 Atlantic Coast Conference) led by 11 points with 9:40 left before the Terrapins used an 8-2 run to close to 50-45 with three minutes remaining.

Geren was fouled while making a layup with 1:44 to play and added the free throw. Clemson’s Itoro Umoh closed out the scoring by making two foul shots with 40 seconds left.

Branka Bogunovic scored 19 points for Maryland (3-15, 1-8), which lost by 48 points at Clemson on Dec. 5.

Umoh scored 15 points for the Tigers, who never trailed after closing the first half with six straight points for a 32-26 lead. A layup by Joanie Mungro gave Clemson its biggest lead, 48-37, before Maryland started its comeback.
