No. 14 Clemson Rallies For 3-1 Victory Over FSU

Nov. 5, 1999

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Despite taking game one 15-11, the Florida State Lady Seminole volleyball team fell to No. 14-ranked Clemson as the Tigers rebounded for 15-3, 15-8, 15-4 wins in the final three games to take the victory. League-leading Clemson improves to 25-1 overall and 13-1 in the ACC while FSU falls to 8-18 overall and 1-12 in league play.

The Tigers took an early 4-0 lead in game one, but Florida State came storming back to take the victory. The Lady Seminoles turned in a .289 hitting performance with 19 kills in the first set. Clemson came back strong in game two as Florida State hit -200 and the Tigers held FSU to single digits the remainder of the match.

Seniors Alison Coday and Cindy Stern combined for 28 of Clemson’s 47 kills while Coday led all players with a .394 hitting performance. Florida State, playing without starting outside hitter Jennifer Werrick who fractured her ankle this week in practice, had two players with double digit kills in Norisha Campbell with 13 and Erica Bunch with 10. Bunch added 14 digs for the only double-double of the match.

“I was pleased with our effort tonight,” FSU Head Coach Dr. Cecile Reynaud said. “Without Jen (Werrick) in the lineup, we had to shuffle some players and I thought our kids responded well. Clemson is a veteran squad with a great deal of talent, but I thought our players came out ready to play and were very competitive.”

Florida State will close the home season on Sunday, November 7th with a 1 p.m. match vs. Georgia Tech at Tully Gym.
