Nine Clemson Rowers Named 2010 CRCA Scholar-Athletes

May 27, 2010

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson Rowing team had nine student-athletes selected by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) as 2010 Scholar-Athletes Wednesday. The award recognizes student-athletes with a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher and have competed in 75 percent of the team’s 2010 spring races.

“It is exciting to see the number of post-season awards our program has recently received both academically and athletically,” said Head Coach Richard Ruggieri. “Academically we had nine rowers named to the CRCA Scholar-Athletes, which is tied for fifth in the nation for Division I teams.”

Seniors Allison Colberg (Mathematical Sciences), Mairi Trimboli (Economics) were selected as National Scholar-Athletes for the third year in a row. Nance was honored earlier in the season by the ACC as she was awarded the Weaver-James-Corrigan postgraduate scholarship.

Fellow seniors Andrea Belbusti and Kelly Murphy received their second National Scholar-Athlete honor in a row. Belbusti is a language and international trade major and Murphy is a health science major.

Four Tigers were first time honorees, including sophomores Katharine Mosier (Biological Sciences) and Melissa Weaver (Communication Studies).

The ACC had 22 rowers total selected as CRCA Scholar-Athletes. Clemson led the conference with nine, followed by Boston College and Duke with four, Virginia with three and North Carolina with two.
