Wes Nelson has been named the new director of the Solid Orange Squad Director for the 2013-14 school year. Nelson graduated in May of 2012 with a degree in management and will be attending graduate school at Clemson as he completes his last year of eligibility for the soccer team this fall.
Nelson has been an extremely active member of SOS for the past three years, participating in a wide variety of events from Boy Scout Day to numerous assembly programs. His knowledge of the organization, his leadership abilities and his dedication to community service will be a great asset for the organization this year. Nelson has spent the summer of 2013 restructuring the SOS constitution and organizing for the upcoming school year.
Q&A with Wes:
1. What are your goals for the upcoming year as the new SOS Director?
Nelson: “As the new SOS Director I would like to continue to grow our organization and spread the word of what we do in the community. My primary goal is to challenge every sport to become active contributors and show a more balanced amount of service across athletics. I would also like to improve our communication within the organization.”
2. What are you most excited about for this upcoming year?
Nelson: “As I prepare for my final year of athletics I am excited to see what the soccer team can do this year. I think the environment for home games will be incredible upon the completion of the stadium.”
3. What is your favorite event to be a part of in SOS?
Nelson: “My favorite SOS event that I have been a part of has been Boy Scout’s Day in the spring. I remember being a Boy Scout around the time I first started playing soccer. That is one reason I really enjoyed getting to share the game with the kids.”
4. What does being a T.I.G.E.R mean to you?
Nelson: “To me being a Tiger means I am part of a very special family. I feel like the Tiger family shares the same values as myself, Teamwork, Integrity, Gratitude, Education, and Respect. I am happy to have found a place that truly cherishes the same things as I do.”
