Mills in Third Place Entering Final Day of Palmetto Amateur

CLEMSON, SC – Clemson junior Corbin Mills shot his third straight round in the 60s on Friday and stands in third place, just two shots out of the lead, entering Saturday’s final round of the 36th annual Palmetto Amateur in Aiken, SC.

Mills has a 202 total after three rounds, eight under par, and just two shots off the lead held by Nicholas Reach of Moscow, PA, who stands at 200 after three rounds. Will McCurdy of Fort Payne, AL is in second place at 201.

Mills had a great round going after an eagle three on the par five 14th hole made him four under par for the day. But he made a triple bogey seven on the 15th hole to fall out of the lead. He played one under par the last three holes to finish with a two under par 68 for the day. Had he made a par on 14, he would have a one shot lead entering Saturday.

Mills has been one of the best amateur golfers in the country this summer after winning the United States Public Links Championship in Oregon and the Players Amateur in Bluffton, SC in recent weeks.

Former Tiger All-American John Engler shot a 69 on Friday and also has three straight rounds in the 60s so far. His 205 score is in fifth place. Clemson senior Jacob Burger had a 71 on Friday and is in sixth place at 207. Bill Kennerly, who will be a freshman at Clemson in August, had a 72 on Friday and is in eighth place at 210, while classmate Stephen Behr, had a 69 on Friday and is in 14th place at 213.
