Men’s Soccer Stomps Winthrop, 9-0

CLEMSON, S.C. — The Clemson men’s soccer team defeated Winthrop 9-0 tonight October 13 in intercollegiate soccer action at Historic Riggs Field. Junior Mark Lisi netted four goals and one assist while sophomore Ian Fuller scored two goals and tallied an assist to lead the Tiger offense.

Clemson improves to 4-5-2 overall. Winthrop falls to 3-9 on the season.

Lisi (Englewood, CO) scored the first two Tiger goals of the game, both coming in the first half. With just over 21 minutes gone in the match, Lisi rifled a direct free kick from 21 yards out past goalkeeper Mark Smith to start the scoring. After Lisi followed with his second goal, Fuller (Portland, OR) scored two of his own, the first with just under 13 minutes to play in the first half and the second with 10 minutes gone in the second half.

Lisi’s two unassisted goals in the second half put the score at 6-0 before Lee Ibrahim, Fabio Tambosi and Jeremy Iwaszkowiec each netted goals to put the score at 9-0 with about 4 minutes to play in the game. Senior Bob Cavanagh registered three assists and sophomore Ross Goodacre tallied two. Ibrahim and Tambosi each had a goal and an assist.

The Tigers with be in action again this Saturday October 16 when they travel to Charlottesville, VA to take on ACC rival Virginia. Start time is set for 7:00 p.m..
