Men’s Golf Finishes Third At The Ridges

JOHNSON CITY,Tenn.–Ben Duncan fired a final round 70, while Greenville native Lucas Glover had a final round 72, leading Clemson to a third place team finish at The Ridges Intercollegiate in Johnson City, TN.

It was the opening tournament of the season for the number-one ranked Tigers. TCU won the event with an 851 score, while South Carolina was second at 854. The Tigers were third with an 864 team score, even par. Northwestern was fourth at 866, while host school East Tennessee State was fifth at 867. There were 14 teams in the field.

Clemson struggled at this event last year, finishing tied for 6th out of 14 schools. “I am glad this was the first tournament of the year,” said Head Coach Larry Penley. “We were very average. There is a lot of room for improvement.”

John Engler shot 74 on Sunday, but was Clemson’s top player for the tournament. He had a 215 for the event and his one-under total was tied for13th. Glover shot 216 for the event, good enough for 16th. Saari, who shot a pair of 69s in the opening two rounds and was tied for third heading into the final round, shot a 79 and finished 20th. Duncan finished 24th, while D.J. Trhan had a 77 on Sunday and finished 65th with a 229 total. Clemson will next be in action at the Ping Preview at the Duke University Course September 24-26.
