Clemson, SC – Patricia Mamona and Liane Weber of the women’s track & field team will compete at this week’s NCAA Outdoor Championships in Sacramento, CA. The meet, which will get underway Wednesday, will be held at the Alex G. Spanos Sports Complex on the campus of Sacramento State University.

Weber earned an invitation in the heptathlon after breaking the school record with 5,337 points in a runner-up finish at the ACC Championships in April. She will get started with four of the seven events on Thursday morning. The 100m hurdles will begin the competition at 10:30 AM (PT). The high jump, shot put, and 200m dash will follow on Thursday. The final three events will be held Friday, the long jump, javelin throw, and 800m.

Weber is the third student-athlete from Clemson to compete in the heptathlon. Katja Pettinen first made the trip to nationals for the program in 1995, while Lauren Nicholson competed in the heptathlon in 2003. Weber is one of four freshmen slated to compete this week out of 26 competitors.

Mamona qualified for the triple jump via a third-place finish at the East Region Championships two weeks ago in Gainesville, FL. She posted her top collegiate jump with a mark of 43’2.5″ on her last attempt. The triple jump prelims will be held Friday at 3:15 PM, with the final coming Saturday at 10:00 AM.

She is the first triple jumper to advance to the NCAA Championships since Gisele Oliveira in 2005. Oliveira won four All-America honors at the outdoor nationals in the triple jump. Mamona is the fourth Lady Tiger to participate at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the triple jump. Nanette Holloway competed in 1992, while Mamona’s event coach and head coach of the Lady Tiger program Marcia Noad (formerly Fletcher) made the trip in 1991.
