South Bend, IN – Itay Magidi posted an NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the 5000m on the first day of competition at the Meyo Invitational at Notre Dame, highlighting Clemson’s performance Friday. In the weight throw, junior Danny Alge moved into third place in the Tiger records with his seventh-place finish.

Magidi finished second overall with a time of 14:04.34, which is by far Clemson’s top time of the 2006 indoor season. Also in the 5000m run, Greg Isaacs also ran for the Tigers and he placed 24th with a time of 15:06.87. Magidi’s time in the 5000m was just shy of his personal best in the indoor event.

In the pole vault, both Danny Alge competed for the Tigers in the 35lb weight throw and was seventh overall with a personal best of 18.36m/60’3″, good enough for third all-time in Clemson history. Only Matt Helinski in 1997 and Mike Neary in 1991 have posted better marks in the weight throw.

Action resumes from the Meyo Invitational on Saturday, beginning with the 3000m run at 9:30 AM. Sean Reilly, Eric Soder will compete in that event for the Tigers.
