Maden Brothers Pull Upsets in Both Singles and Doubles at ITA All-American Tournament

TULSA, OK – Clemson’s Yannick Maden and Dominique Maden upset the number-one seed and second ranked team in the country in the doubles main draw of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Men’s All-American Tennis Tournament at Tulsa OK Thursday night.The Maden brothers of Clemson defeated Jonas Lutjen and Nik Scholtz of the University of Mississippi 8-4.  Lutjen and Scholtz are ranked second nationally and were seeded first in this tournament.In singles play, Yannick Maden advanced to the final 16 of the main draw with two wins today.  In the opening play, Yannick Maden defeated Farris Gosea of Illinois 6-4, 6-2.     In the second round, Maden defeated the ninth-seeded player Andreas Mies of Auburn 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.  Mies is ranked ninth nationally in singles, while Yannick Maden is ranked 43rd nationally.In singles, in the round of 16, Yannick Maden will play KU Singh of the University of Georgia around 12:00 pm.  Singh is seeded eighth in the tournament.In the second round of doubles, the Maden brothers of Clemson will play Jordan Szabo-Jackson Withrow of Texas A&M tomorrow afternoon.This tournament brings together the top men’s tennis players from around the nation.”We are very proud of the Maden brothers,” said Clemson Head Coach Chuck McCuen.  “Yannick did a great job and improved his game with each match.  As a doubles team they continue to gain momentum and this was apparent today with their win over the number-one seed.”
