Clemson will play host to Wake Forest in women’s basketball on Monday at Littlejohn Coliseum. The Lady Tigers have lost 11 consecutive games, but hope to snap out of it against a Wake Forest team that sits just one game ahead of them in the conference standings. The game, televised by the ACC’s regional sports network (Fox Sports Net South, locally), will tip at 7:00 PM.
The Lady Tigers are 7-17 overall, 1-10 in the ACC. Clemson fought hard last time out at #3 Duke, but eventually fell by the final margin of 72-48. The Blue Devil lead was just five points at the under eight timeout. The game with Duke marked the fifth consecutive game versus a ranked opponent for Clemson.
Tasha Phillips has caught fire lately for Clemson, as she has hit 12 of her last 20 shots outside the three-point arc. She hit 4-9 in the Duke game and scored 18 total points, 15 in the second half. Phillips averages 8.0 points per game and leads the team with 39 three-pointers made.
Reggie Maddox played well in the loss at Duke. The 5-9 junior guard scored 12 points and hit 2-5 from three-point range. More importantly, she had three assists and no turnovers in 34 minutes of play against one of the nation’s top defensive teams in Duke. Maddox leads Clemson with 9.9 points per game, 80 assists, and 42 steals.
Amanda White has been the team’s top post player at 7.4 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. She leads the team in rebounding average and also in blocked shots with 21 on the season. White had six points and six boards in the Duke game last time out.
Wake Forest will bring a 13-11 record (2-9 ACC) to town on Monday. The Demon Deacons defeated Clemson 86-71 earlier this season in Winston-Salem. Liz Strunk, a junior forward, scored 30 points in that game. Strunk averages 14 points per game for Wake Forest as the team’s second-leading scorer.
The Deacons boast one of the league’s top offenses. Wake Forest averages 72.1 points per game, led by Cotelia Bond-Young with 16 points each time out. The Deacons are the only team in the ACC to average more three-point shots made than Clemson. Wake Forest has made 210 outside shots this season, nearly nine per contest.
