CLEMSON TO FACE N.C. STATE SATURDAY IN ACC TOURNAMENT Lady Tigers open play in ACC Tournament at 6:00 p.m.
CLEMSON, SC-The Clemson Lady Tiger basketball team will play N.C. State in the quarterfinal round of the 27th Annual Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament at the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, NC Saturday evening at 6:00 p.m.
Clemson has a 17-10 record overall, and a 7-9 mark in the ACC. The Lady Tigers are seeded sixth. N.C. State has a 16-13 record overall and finished with an 8-8 mark in league play.
Jim Davis’ team is led in scoring by All-ACC candidate Lakeia Stokes (16.8 ppg). The Covington, GA native also leads the team in rebounding (6.9 rpg), assists (99) and steals (66).
Senior Julie Aderhold is second on the team in scoring, averaging 9.6 points per game. Senior Maggie Slosser is second on the team in rebounding, averaging 6.0 rebounds per game. Khaili Sanders leads the Lady Tigers in blocks with 33.
N.C. State is led in scoring by Kaayla Chones with a 14.9 ppg. average. She also leads the Wolfpack in rebounding with an 8.1 rpg. mark.
This will be the 13th meeting between Clemson and NC State in the ACC Tournament. NC State has an 8-4 lead in the series at the ACC Tournament. Clemson won four straight games over the Wolfpack in 1992, 1994, 1997, and 1999. NC State has won the last two games between the two schools in the ACC Tournament in 2001 and 2002. Clemson has played NC State 12 times in the ACC Tournament, more than any other opponent in the ACC Tournament.
In 1997, Clemson defeated NC State 87-75. That year, Clemson was the sixth seed in the tournament and NC State was the third seed, just like this season.
Overall, this will be the 67th meeting between Clemson and NC State on the basketball court. The Wolfpack leads the overall series 40-26. In games played at neutral Sites, NC State leads the overall series 7-4. Clemson has played NC State more than any other ACC School with 69 meetings, Clemson and North Carolina have met 68 times.
Senior guard Lakeia Stokes was named First Team All-ACC as announced by the Associated Press. The Covington, GA native finished third in the voting. Stokes is the only player in the ACC to be ranked in the top 10 in the following statistical categories: scoring, rebounding, assists, blocked shots and steals.
Stokes finished the regular season leading Clemson in scoring, rebounding, assists and steals. She is on track to be the first Lady Tiger to lead her team in scoring, rebounding and assists in the same season.
