Lady Tigers To Play Host To #3 Maryland On Thursday

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson women’s basketball team will play host to third-ranked (AP/USA Today) Maryland on Thursday night at Littlejohn Coliseum. The Lady Tigers (9-11, 1-4 ACC) and Terps (20-1, 4-1) are slated for a 7:00 pm tip-off. The game will be broadcast live on the Internet on www.wccpfm.com with Dan Scott calling the plays and Kanetra Queen serving as color commentator. Fans may also follow the action via livestats on www.clemsontigers.com.

Junior forward D’Lesha Lloyd will look to extend her double-figure scoring streak to 17 games as she owns a 15.3 scoring average that ranks first on the team and sixth in the ACC. She also boasts a team-high 7.2 rebounds per game. Fellow junior Tasha Taylor is averaging 15.6 points in Clemson’s last five games to boost her season average to 12.6 points per game. She tied with freshman Lele Hardy for high-scorer honors against Boston College on Sunday afternoon.

Clemson Verse Maryland, The Series Tonight’s game between Maryland and Clemson will be the 58th match-up featuring the two schools, dating back to the 1977-78 season. The Terps hold a 33-24 all-time advantage but the Lady Tigers lead by a 14-11 margin in games played on their home court. Maryland has won the last five meetings, including an 89-63 decision last year in College Park, MD.

Scouting the Terrapins Maryland enters Thursday night’s match-up as the third-ranked team in both the AP and the USA Today polls. The Terps boast a 20-1 overall record with a 4-1 mark in ACC play.

All five Maryland starters average in double figures with Crystal Langhorne leading the squad with 14.9 points per game. She also owns a team-best 7.7 rebounds per game aveage while shooting an impressive 76.0% from the field. Reigning ACC Freshman-of-the-Year Marissa Coleman ranks second on the Maryland team with a 12.4 scoring average while also averaging 6.7 rebounds per game.

The Terps are averaging 87.5 points per game overall, a figure that ranks second in the nation. They are also out-rebounding their opposition by a 17.3 margin that leads the ACC as well as the country. Maryland also owns a nation-best 20.1 assist per game average and a .560 field goal shooting percentage.

Veterans Vs. Maryland All six returning letterwinners have seen action against Maryland in prior years with junior D’Lesha Lloyd leading the way with a 15.0 points per game average verse the Terps. Senior Carrie Whitehurst has played in a team-high five total contests against Maryland, including a first-round game at the 2005 ACC Tournament.

Adrianne Bradshaw – had four points in 12 minutes of action in one regular season game. Moreemi Davis – has seen nine minutes of playing time with two rebounds …had eight points in 2005 ACC Tournament match-up. D’Lesha Lloyd – averaging 15.0 points in two regular season games against the Terps …also collected 11 rebounds in those two contests. Tasha Taylor – averaging 5.0 points, 4.0 assists and 3.5 rebounds in two regular season games. Carrie Whitehurst – has totaled 16 points and nine rebounds in four games. Susan Yenser – played 34 minutes in last season’s game with 11 points and five rebounds.
