Lady Tigers Finish Sixth at Furman Cross Country Invitational

Greenville, SC – The Clemson women’s cross country team finished sixth at the Furman Invitational on Saturday. The 5K event was held at the Furman University Golf Course and was won by North Florida with 73 points. The Tigers were sixth with 133 points as a team.

Patrice McMillan scored a top-10 finish to lead the Lady Tigers’ effort on Saturday. It was her first top-10 finish of the season individually. She had a time of 19:16 over the course, which matched her previous best (2006 Gamecock Invitational). Right behind her in 11th place was sophomore Laura Laughlin, who had been the team’s top finisher in the last three meets. Laughlin crossed the finish line in 19:21.

The third scorer for the Lady Tigers on Saturday was Sunday Ford, who came home 34th (20:04). She has been in Clemson’s top three this season in all four events she has competed. Lisa Brown scored for the second straight meet for Clemson. She placed 40th overall and ran a personal best 5K time of 20:17.

The final scorer for Clemson at Furman was freshman Ashley Vaughn, who crossed the finish line in 20:31. She placed 49th in the field of 125 competitors. Also competing for the team over the weekend were Maggie Bernard (53rd, 20:38), Lauren Klas (58th, 20:46), Lauren Marriott (103rd, 22:57).

The Lady Tigers return to action in two weeks to take part in the ACC Cross Country Championships in Earlysville, VA.
