D’Lesha Lloyd posted her second consecutive double-double, scoring 26 points and collecting 11 rebounds, as the Clemson women’s basketball team won a 94-81 decision over Wofford on Friday afternoon at Littlejohn Coliseum. Lloyd was one of five double figure scorers for the Lady Tigers, who are now over .500 with a 7-6 ledger.
“We are really glad to be over .500 going into the holiday break,” Clemson Head Coach Cristy McKinney said. “D’Lesha had another good game and really stepped it up in the second half.”
Clemson point guard Christy Brown tied a career high with 17 points against the Terriers while also handing out seven assists, and Spartanburg native Lele Hardy turned in a 13-point, seven-rebound performance. Hardy also increased her ACC-leading steals per game average to 3.85 with seven on Friday afternoon.
Tasha Taylor added 14 points for the Lady Tigers, while Susan Yenser hit double figures for the first time this season with 12.
Kelsi Koenig led a now 6-6 Wofford team with 22 points and collected a team-high seven rebounds. K.C. Correll, Summer Nichols, Jennifer Weurding and Laura Depko also scored in double figures for the Terriers in the effort.
Clemson held a narrow 38-34 advantage at the end of a first half that saw nine tie scores and seven lead changes. After Wofford knotted the score at 23 apiece on a jumper by Depko with 9:31 remaining, the score remained tied or in Terrier control until the 3:35 mark. The teams were tied three times during the stretch before a jumper by Yenser put Clemson on top, 33-32. The Lady Tigers then went up by six on a basket by Adrianne Bradshaw with 1:08 remaining and took the four-point lead into the lockerroom.
Clemson then opened the second half on a 15-4 run to widen the gap to 13 points as Brown hit the first of her two three-pointers at the 14:59 mark. Her second came three and a half minutes later and gave her team its largest lead of the game at 68-49. However, the Terriers fought their way back to within six with just under two minutes remaining as Nichols hit a jumper to narrow the margin to 82-76.
Lloyd then completed a three-point play to put Clemson back on top by nine and the Lady Tigers converted seven free throws down the stretch to claim their seventh victory of the season.
Clemson will return to action next Friday night after a week-long holiday break. The Lady Tigers will face the Duquesne Dukes at 7:00 pm in Pittsburgh, PA
