CLEMSON, SC- Deliah Arrington scored two goals and had one assist in 12th-ranked Clemson’s 4-1 win over Butler in the second game of the Clemson Women’s Soccer Invitational at Clemson, SC Friday night. The match was delayed due to lightning.
The Lady Tigers are now 4-2 overall while Butler falls to 3-2 this season. The Lady Tigers are ranked 12th by Soccer America and 18th in the NSCAA poll.
Clemson was winning 1-0 with 39:44 left to go in the first half. At this point, the match was stopped due to lightning for one hour and 52 minutes.
Deliah Arrington scored the Lady Tigers’ first goal with assists by Heather Beem and Allison Graham at the 3:13 mark. Shortly afterwards the match was stopped due to the weather.
Arrington scored her second goal of the night at the 17:43 mark with an assist by Heather Beem. Lindsay Browne put the Lady Tigers ahead 3-0 with her first goal of the season with assists by Allison Graham and Arrington.
Butler’s Amy Morrison scored her fourth goal of the year as she score d with 29:46 gone with an assist by Rachel Pivarnik.
Beem scored her fifth goal of the match with an assist by Browne at the 34:34 mark.
The Clemson Invitational will continue on Sunday when Western Carolina plays Butler at 12:30 p.m. and Clemson will play Tennessee at 2:30 p.m. Tennessee is ranked 16th by Soccer America. Tennessee defeated Western Carolina in the first match 3-1.
“I think we struck a nice balance tonight,” said Clemson Head Coach Todd Bramble. “We got to rest our starters and let some players off the bench receive some quality minutes. I think Deliah Arrington did a great job putting away some chances. I think our finishing was better in tonight’s match. I feel as though our depth is really good this year, and I am glad we had the opportunity to play a lot of people tonight.”
