Lady Tiger Track & Field to Compete at Clemson Opener

Clemson, SC – The women’s track & field team will begin the 2007-08 indoor season this weekend at home for the Clemson Opener. Over 40 schools will send student-athletes to the opening meet of the indoor season. The meet will be held Friday and Saturday at the school’s indoor facility.

Friday’s action gets underway with three events at 5:00 PM. The first women’s event will be the distance medley relay at 5:20. Clemson’s first event Friday will be the long jump at 5:30 PM. Ashley Good and April Sinkler will compete in the long jump.

The trials for the 60m hurdles and 60m dash will also take place Friday. Polly Hardy, a returning ACC scorer in both the indoor and outdoor high hurdles, leads a group of three Lady Tigers competing in the prelims.

In the 60m dash, returning sprinters Ra’Sheena Parker and Kristine Scott will run prelims beginning at 6:50 PM. Linda Buchholz and Liane Weber, multi-event competitors who performed well in 2007 as first-year athletes in the program, will also run the 60m prelims.

Also on Friday, junior Rochelle Kokayko and senior Catheryne Porter will compete in the second flight of the 20-pound weight throw. Kokayko ranks fourth in school history on the all-time performance list in the weight throw.

Patricia Mamona will lead the Clemson competitors on Saturday. The sophomore standout from Portugal will compete in the triple jump at 11:00 AM. Sinkler, a highly-touted freshman, will also compete in the event. Also at 11:00, All-ACC performer Caroline Kennedy will compete in the pole vault. She ranks fifth in school history on the all-time indoor performance list in the vault.

The finals for the 60m hurdles and 60m dash will be at 11:10 and 11:30 AM, respectively. Clemson will also have student-athletes competing Saturday in the 200m, 400m, high jump, and shot put.
