Clemson, SC – Clemson senior Julie Coin is ranked #3 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s singles poll, released on Feb. 21. Coin boasts a 16-2 overall record for the 2004-05 season and a 7-0 mark in dual action.
Clemson’s top singles player is 14-0 against ranked opponents and is currently riding a seven match winning streak. She also has seven victories over players ranked among the top 15 according to the ITA. One of Coin’s losses came to Audra Cohen of Northwestern, who is currently the #1 singles player in the country.
The Tigers held their #16 ranking after falling to third-ranked Georgia on Saturday, 5-2. Clemson improved to 4-4 overall after defeating #18 Harvard on Monday, but only results up to Feb. 20 were included in the rankings. The Tigers have also posted wins over Virginia Tech, #10 Tulane and #4 UCLA.
In the ITA doubles poll, two Clemson teams earned rankings. Coin and senior Alix Lacelarie are listed 19th after compiling a 6-1 overall record and a 3-0 mark in dual matches. Junior Daniela Alvarez and sophomore Maria Brito are ranked #20. The tandem has a 9-6 overall record and is 2-1 in dual play.
The Tigers’ next match is on Friday, Feb. 25 against Virginia Commonwealth in Richmond, VA.
